Lake Biwa – Cherry blossom viewing from water surface
12 April 2015
I have been looking forward to this day. Hanami (Cherry blossom viewing) by kayak is once in a year event for me. Kaizu-Osaki is a peninsula located northern shore of Lake Biwa (the largest lake in Japan) in Shiga-prefecture. In this area cherry blossoms come out middle of April, approximately 2weeks later than Kyoto city.
Start from Makino beach, takes about 30minutes to reach shore of Kaizu-Osaki.
A lot of kayakers come from all Kansai-area. Here is holy place for kayakers at this time of year.
Kaizu-Osaki is selected one of Japan’s 100 famous cherry blossoms spot. You can see line of pink along the shore of Lake Biwa for 4km,.
